REGULATION and TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Distance 42,195 km

Date and time

The race, agonistic and non competitive, will take place on Sunday 17 December 2023 on the distance measured by AIMS-World Athletics and Fidal, with start at 9:00 am.

Participation and Registration

The athletes born in 2003 or prior can join the Maratona di Pisa 2023, if they have:

– FIDAL membership card

– A membership card of Foreign Federation Clubs recognized by World Athletics

– Athletes having a FIDAL Runcard and a Medical Certificate for competitive athletics valid at the date Marathon 2023

– Foreign national athletes don’t have IAFF membership card, insured by the organization signing of  Waiver Form, can partecipate in non competitive mode, according to the current regulations. These athletes will enjoy all the srvices but they will be excluded  from the ranking of winners and from any form of prizes (in money or in kind).

Documents required for registration:

– Registration form properly filled

– Payment of the fee indicated

– A copy of FIDAL membership card, RunCard along with a medical certificate for competitive athletics, a copy of membership card of foreign Federation Club recognized by World Athletics or a medical certificate (Health Form) required by the organization like during the past editions for athletes not in possession of a membership card of any club.

How to register:

– Online on website www.maratonadipisa.com with card payament or paypal payment

Athletes NOT PROPERLY REGISTERED and/or not having the proof of payment are not allowed to participate.

The organization may temporarily suspend or close earlier the registrations in case of reaching the maximum limit of  participants for marathon and half marathon in order to guarantee all adequate services.

There will be a maximum of 3000 Athletes 1500 in the Marathon and 1500 in the Half.

In any case a notification will be published on the web site www.maratonadipisa.com

Refunding entry fees due to unavailability to attend

In case of impossibility to participate, the entry fees are non-refundable under any circumstances. However, the athletes, who will not be able to join the race, will be offered two alternative options to be notified to the organization no later than 14 December 2023:

1. Transfer the registration to Maratona di Pisa 2024, by paying a surcharge of €10,00 for admin expenses at the time of a new registration. The option to transfer the registration to the next year edition can be used only once.

No additional reductions in the registration fee can be used in conjunction with transfer of the registration to the edition 2024.

2. Transfer the registration to another person by paying a surcharge of €10,00 for admin expenses to confirm changes by email correspondence.

The person transferring the registration to 2024 or the person replacing another must fill a new entry form to include all personal data, information as to membership card and providing a medical certificate. He will be assigned a new bib number still available with consequent start order.

The option to transfer the registration to another person can be used only in the edition 2023 and in any case only once. No additional reductions in the registration fee can be used in conjunction with transferring of registration to another person.

In case of cancellation of the event due to “force majeure” reasons, the registrations can be transferred to the following years, no more than 3 editions, pending confirmation of attendance and acceptance of the regulation of the selected year.  It is possible to transfer the registration to another person as indicated above by paying a supplement of 10,00 euro.

Race Number and goody bag Pick-up

Athletes can pick-up their bib numbers and bags on Saturday 16 December 2023 starting FROM 10:00 am until 10:00 pm from Expo Marathon Village 

For pick-up of bib numbers it is necessary to show an ID document, the confirmation letter received also on smartphone or tablet and possible additional documents indicated in the confirmation letter (membership card, Run Card or updated medical certificate).

It is possible to collect a bib number and bag for only ONE more participant by presenting a power of attorney, a copy of ID card and the confirmation letter of the other person.

Services

All participants will receive a goody bag, refreshments, sponge stations, medical support, finisher medal, a diploma that can be downloaded online and their official time will be indicated in arrival list. According to current regulations only athletes in possession of FIDAL membership card and foreign athletes having a membership card of Foreign Athletics Federations World Athletics will qualify for final monetary awards.

Start

All participants must be in the start area in via Bonanno Pisano by 08.00 hrs am.

The start will take place at 09.00 hrs am, but there might be a few minutes delay or earlier start due to television requirements.

Entrance to the start corrals will be allowed between 08.00 and 08.30 hrs am. Late athletes will be invited to enter the last corral at the end of the race.

All participants must be ready to enter the start corrals by 08.45 hrs am.

It is not allowed to enter a corral different from the one indicated by the bib number. Once inside the corral the participants cannot exit any more.

Anyway, starting is allowed from a corral behind the designated one.

There might be some changes in starting hours due to safety reasons and/or requirements of police officials.

Race Number

The race number is personal and you cannot exchange it with other participants otherwise you can be disqualified.

The race number must be fully visible all times and it must be attached on the front of your running shirt. It cannot be covered in any way by pictures or writings or you will risk disqualification.

Time limits

The time limit to finish the 42,195 km is 6 hours and 30 minutes. The time limit to cross the checkpoint of the half marathon (21,097 km) is 3 hours and 15 minutes. The time limit to cross the checkpoint of 30 km is 4 hours and 35 minutes. The athletes who are not able to maintain the pace of 8’30 minutes per km might be asked to move to the sidewalks following the highway code.

Timing and chip

Your official time will be recorded by MyLaps microchip timing system that will also record your effective (real) time.

The chip is strictly personal and it cannot be exchanged with anybody.

The recording of “Real time” starts when you cross the starting line and it ends when you cross the finish line.   The system also records the intermediate times of all athletes at 10 km – 21,097 km – 30 km checkpoints and there will be additional surprise checkpoints to insure an accurate order of arrival.

The chip cannot be removed for any reason thus risking to be excluded from the order of arrival. NO CHIP NO TIME!

Bags Drop Off

There will be a bag drop off point located near the Leaning Tower (at arrival). The service will be available starting 07.00 hrs am and the area is organized by race numbers split in groups. Staff volunteers will place your bag in designated areas. The sticker with your race number, received at Expo, must be affixed on the bag. The drop off point will close at 08.30 hrs.

Award Ceremony

Winner Podium – Only the first three men and the first three women arrived will be awarded. No prizes are foreseen for the age categories.

Image rights and authorization to process personal data

With the registration in the 21th Pisa Marathon, athlete authorizes free utilization of the pictures, photos and/or motion pictures, taken during the participation in Pisamarathon. This authorization has no time limits and the pictures and motion pictures can be used worldwide for promotion and advertising of the event. 

The organization may also transfer the rights of use provided for in this regulation to third parties, its institutional and commercial partners.

If the athlete has expressed his consent on the registration form, he may also receive information of a nature
promotional both by the association and by its commercial partners.

Statement of responsibility

With his/her signature the athlete states to know and accept the regulation and rules of the 24th Maratona di Pisa, published on the web site www.maratonadipisa.com . Under his own responsibility the athlete swears having made true statements (art. 2 law 04/01/1968 no. 15 as modified by art. 3 comma 10 law 15/05/1997 n°127) and he also releases the organization officials of all responsibilities, both civil and penal, for any personal injuries or material damages that he may have caused.

Final remarks

Maratona di Pisa Directory Staff is authorized to change this regulation any time in order to improve proceeding of the race. The athletes registered to the race will be promptly notified of potential changes in the services, places and time tables by email or all changes will be published on the web site www.maratonadipisa.com the only official source of information.

 

Summary of Scheduled Activities

Saturday – 16 December

opening of Maratona di Pisa Expo. Distribution of race numbers, chips, and goody bags. Accreditation of passes for press, guests and assigned personnel.l. Information area, reception and hospitality. Program and conferences.

Sunday 17 December

08.00 hrs am – opening of the start cages

08,30 hrs am – End of bags drop off and caging of the start area

08.45 hrs am – closure of the cages

09,00 hrs am – Start of Marathon and Half Marathon

10,00 hrs am – First Half Marathon runners will arrive

10,30 hrs am – Half Marathon Award ceremony will start

Approx. 11.10 hrs am – Arrival of first marathon runners

11.30 hrs am – Award ceremony for Marathon runners and winners of side events

15.30 hrs pm – Expiration of the time limit of 6 hours and 30 minutes and closure of the event 

The bags can be dropped off near the start area and they will be picked-up after the arrival

General route information

The route, that the athlets will run, has been measured by FIDAL and AIMS-World Athletics (start, riversides, district of Porta a Mara, Location La Vettola, San Piero a Grado, via Bigattiera, Tirrenia, Marina di Pisa, Viale d’Annunzio, Porta a Mare, Bridge of Cittadella, via Roma, via Santa Maria and Piazza del Duomo).

There will be refreshment points every 5 km.

Only refreshments provided by the organization and those placed by the athletes on the tables made available by the organization staff at the start can be used during the race. An athlete who receives assistance and liquid or solid refreshments by unauthorized persons along the route may be disqualified.

For safety reasons any person without an official race number (walking, by bicycle or by other means) will be directed to leave the course immediately. If necessary staff personnel can request assistance from local police officers to remove unauthorized individuals who could be reported for fraud in sports . The organization cannot be held liable for potential damages or injuries to unauthorized persons found in the race course without a race number.

The race course is entirely paved.

The course progress is marked at every km.

Timing and final order of arrival are managed by MyLaps and Italian Timers Federation of Pisa Section.

There will be an Additional Bonus in the amount of 1.000,00 euro only for the first man and the first woman who beats the record of the event 2 h 15’ 22″ (men) and 2 h 35’ 43″ (women)

The athletes who are only possessors of the Run Card are not eligible for above listed monetary awards.

Any complaint must be made in accordance with the FIDAL and R.T.I rules.
